cARTwheels II 2012
The cARTwheels program from the North Carolina Arts
Council provides high quality staged performances to students across the
state. cARTwheel tours include:
-
A teacher workshop (two to six hours): to help
teachers create entry ways for their students to the performance.
-
Live performances: two 50-minute, high quality,
age-appropriate performances that engage student's imaginations and
take place in the quality settings where the art form was designed
to be presented. These performances will be presented at local
(The Gallery Theatre), medium-sized (The Gallery Theatre seats 400)
performance venues.
-
Study guides: to introduce students to the
performance. Guides include activities and resources that make
curricular connections and facilitate extensions in the classroom.
Flamenco Vivo
Carlota Santana
The Gallery Theatre is proud to have been selected as
the recipient of a cARTwheels II grant presenting Flamenco Vivo for
Bertie County Schools and
Hertford County Public Schools teachers and
students.
-
Performed by Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana:
The rhythms and emotions of flamenco come alive through whirling
colorful ruffled dresses, waving fans, long fringed shawls (mantones),
classic men's vests (chaleco), all set among an explosion of
clicking castanets, the strumming of guitars and dancers keeping the
beat with their special flamenco shoes and rhythmic hand clapping.
The rich and powerful art of traditional flamenco and its energetic
dance reveals a vision of life full of pride, passion, honor and
love.
